Here are some ideas for outings and fun things for the weeks of  January 7-13:

FREE:

  • January 8 (5:30pm-7:30pm): Mindful Moments - at 1000 Voices Genesis Centre (7555 Falconridge Blvd NE), you will learn mindfulness skills coaching and activities, self-regulation skills and stress reduction strategies and parallel parents and child (ages 8-12) group sessions. There will be support in learning how to keep cool if your children escalate, help children manage strong emotions and being present with your children.
  • January 9 (5:00pm-10:00pm): The Brink of Infinity Artist Reception -  at cSpace King Edward, check out a collection of works by artists Connor and Nadia Gottfried. There will be a mix of large-scale works that consider technological progress and Nadia's photography exploring the connection between the urban and natural. There will be food, beverages and music.
  • January 13 (7:00pm-10:00pm): West Hillhurst Holiday Market - at West Hillhurst Community Association, there will be a annual Holiday Market featuring 50 vendors. Food bank donations are accepted.
  • January 13 (7:00pm): Disability Pride Alberta: Meeting of the Minds -  at Central Library, come join to talk about the future of Disability Pride Alberta. There will be brainstorming going on about how the disability community can be more connected.

PAID:

  • January 8 (7:00pm): Chasing Einstein - at Globe Cinema (617 8 Ave SW), the next entry in Calgary International Film Festival's Doc soup series involves someone you might have heard of - Albert Einstein. Admission: $15
  • January 9 (7:00pm-8:30pm): Belong by Mark Tewksbury - at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (111 12 Ave SE), Calgarian Olympian, author and advocate Mark Tewksbury will be showing his latest work as a one-man show entitled Belong. He talks about what it means to belong. Admission: $20-40
  • January 9, 10 & 11 (times vary - see link): Sterling Scott - at Hotel Blackfoot, Edmonton-based comedian Sterling Scott is visiting for five shows. He has toured internationally, has been on Just For Laughs and has written This Hour has 22 Minutes.   • January 10 (12:00pm-9:00pm), 11 & 12 (10:00am-8:00pm): The Motorcycle Show -  this event is gearing up for a three-day conference that shows new motorcycles, ATV's, gear, services and accessories. There will be prize giveaways, riding club booths and informational displays. Admission: $11-15
  • January 10 (7:00pm): Calgary Hitmen Pucks for Paws -  at the Saddledome, the Calgary Hitmen will be playing a special charitable hockey game in support of Four Feet Companion Foundation. There will be a 50/50 draw. Secure these tickets in advance, if possible. Admission: $15
  • January 10 (9:00pm): The Blake Reid Band -  King Eddy is hosting outlaw-country act The Black Reid Band for a headlining performance on January 10. There will be a mix of seating and standing, so arrive early if you would like to get seats. Admission: $10-20
  • January 10 & 11 (9:00pm): A Tribute to Mowtown -  the Mowtown Tribute Orchestra is playing two nights of electrifying Mowtown tunes at The Ironwood (1229 9 Ave SE). This 10-piece ensemble will be playing some of the best-loved songs of the last century by acts including Marvin Gaye, Smoky Robinson, The Temptations, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes and more! Admission: $20.
  • January 11 (9:00pm): Drew Gregory -  the King Eddy is hosting Albertan country act Drew Gregory for a headlining performance on January 11. There will be a mix of standing and seating - arrive early if you would like seating.  Admission: $20
